International Student Admission

Applications from international students are encouraged. A candidate for admission to the freshman class or as a transfer student should:

1. Complete the Hendrix application or the Common Application online or mail a completed application to Hendrix. You may access both applications and other required application materials at www.hendrix.edu/apply. Students from Jiangsu Province in China may use the application provided by JESIE/CSS Abroad.
2. Submit an essay or personal statement in English. This will be included with the Common Application, and you will find instructions on the application form.
3. Submit two official copies of transcripts from all secondary and post-secondary academic work—one in the original language and one translated into English.
4. Non-native English speakers must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS), and have the official score reported directly to Hendrix. An SAT Evidence-based reading and writing score of 730 or higher, or an ACT English score of 32 or higher can replace the TOEFL or IELTS test requirement, and should be reported directly to Hendrix. 
   
5. Submit the International Student Certification of Finances indicating that you have ample funds for one full year’s expenses at Hendrix College.
6. If you are a transfer student, download a Dean of Student Affairs Recommendation Form and have it completed and returned to Hendrix by the most recent college or university you have attended.
7. Interviews are not a required part of the admission process, but are strongly encouraged. The Office of Admission reserves the right to require an interview as part of the admission process, if deemed necessary.
8. Contact the Office of Admission for information on international student scholarships, if applicable.

Matriculating international students are required to participate in the Hendrix College Summer Institute for English Language and Culture immediately prior to their first fall semester of study. The goal of this intensive program is to develop essential language skills, critical thinking, and cultural context necessary to succeed at an American liberal arts college. Date and cost information will be provided to all admitted international students. Includes academic credit.
