Hendrix College to present honorary degree to Dr. Richard Pazdur
Dr. Richard Pazdur, director of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Oncology Center of Excellence (OCE), will receive an Honorary Doctor of Science degree and address the class of 2025 at Hendrix College’s commencement. The ceremony begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 17 at Hendrix’s Young-Wise Memorial Stadium.
Dr. Garbiñe Vidal-Torreira awarded ACS Mellon Academic Leadership Fellowship
The Associated Colleges of the South (ACS) named
its second cohort of ACS Mellon Academic Leadership Fellows following a
competitive selection process among its member institutions. Hendrix College is
proud to announce that among the nine professors selected this year was Hendrix
Associate Professor of Spanish Dr. Garbiñe Vidal-Torreira.
Hendrix College to host summer microbiology camp
Hendrix College will host its second microbiology camp this summer for middle school students. The camp runs June 23-27 from 9 am to 4 pm daily in the DW Reynolds building. Dr. Andrew Schurko invites middle school students to Hendrix for the second year of this STEM camp.
Hendrix Players present ‘Up, Down, Strange, Charmed, Beauty, and Truth’

of the 2025 Senior Seminar production “Up, Down, Strange, Charmed, Beauty, and
Truth” by Edward Allan Baker. Showtimes are April 24 and 25 at 7:30 p.m. and April 26 at 2 p.m. in Cabe Theatre.
Hendrix student Cecelia Schneider awarded Watson Fellowship
Continuing its tradition of expanding the vision and developing the potential of remarkable young leaders, the Watson Foundation announced its 57th class of Thomas J. Watson Fellows, including Hendrix College student Cecelia Schneider ’25. The prestigious fellowship provides a year of unparalleled discovery to graduating college students from any discipline.
Two Hendrix alumni to give public talks April 3
Leading into Hendrix College’s Alumni Weekend (April 4-6) two Hendrix alumni will host public talks on Thursday, April 3. Both events are free and open to the public. Len Nichols ’75 will present a lecture titled “The Value of a Liberal Arts Education for Economists and Normal People” at 6 p.m. in Mills A. Immediately following, Jo Ann Biggs ’80 will host “Shattering Glass Ceilings (From Hendrix to Career)” at 7:30 p.m. in the Hundley Shell Theatre.
Hendrix Odyssey Program Announces Project Funding for February 2025 Cycle
These projects involve a range of academic, professional, and personal explorations through experiences from researching how personal experiences and emotions shape the design, style, size, placement, and willingness to pay for tattoos and how arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi respond to environmental changes to undertaking internships in auditing with an accounting company and in development with a philharmonic organization, and much more.

President Karen Petersen joins Conway Chamber board
Hendrix
College President Karen Petersen has joined the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce
Board of Directors for a two-year term expiring in Dec. 2026. The 38-member
board represents the vast membership of the Chamber, which includes more than
1,400 businesses and organizations.
Hendrix cheerleader Tori-Beth Poland ’27 crowned Miss Diamond Lakes
Tori-Beth Poland ’27, a Hendrix cheerleader, won the Miss Diamond Lakes title at the Feb. 8 pageant. Poland is the first Hendrix student in 15 years to compete in the Miss Arkansas pageant. The campus community rallies behind her as she pursues the coveted Miss Arkansas title June 8-14 at Robinson Performance Hall in Little Rock.
Hendrix Mock Trial team shines in regional competition
The Hendrix College Mock Trial team recently attended the Mississippi State Regional Mock Trial Tournament Competition where they competed in four rounds against other schools from around the country. Payden McGann ‘28 earned an award for Outstanding Performance with 19 ranks, the most at the competition.

The poem “Arkansas” by Annie Crouch, senior psychology major from Fayetteville, recently appeared in the American Literary Review, a literary magazine published through the Department of English at the University of North Texas.
