Each spring, senior theatre students work
collaboratively to bring a play to the Cabe Theatre stage in partial
fulfillment of their degree requirements. The seniors are mentored by faculty
and staff and are supported by many other students. The 2026 graduating theatre
majors and their roles for the production are: Bella Kerby, director (“Asleep
on the Wind”) and costume designer; Miki Clendenin, director (“Graceland”) and
scenic designer; Alistair Luke, stage manager (“Asleep on the Wind”) and
lighting designer; Autumn Alsup, stage manager (“Graceland”) and sound
designer.
Interim Chair of Theatre Arts and Dance Brigitte
Rogers said, “Senior Seminar is a culmination of four years of work and
experience. It is a wonderful example of not only the liberal arts but how the
Theatre Arts and Dance Department provides a well-rounded education.”
In addition to putting their creative and
analytical talents to use, the students also get to refine other skills highly
valued by employers, including communication, collaboration, leadership,
inclusivity, and professionalism.
“Graceland,” the first of the one-act
plays, is a story of female friendship across the boundaries of social
differences. It features Audrey Young ’27 as Bev and Sienna Beckham ’29 as
Rootie. These two women defy the odds and form a strong bond over their shared
love of Elvis, thrown together by chance in front of his mansion just days
before it opens to be viewed by the public.
“Asleep on the Wind,” the second play
presented, is a prequel to the first. This play features Jada Shorter ’26 as
Rootie and Treece Ealy ’29 as Beau. The story focuses on the two siblings as
they meet in their secret special place (the ruins of an old plantation). They
have a strong bond and are all the other has.
Neither is prepared for the immense change on the horizon that comes in the
form of the Vietnam War.
These plays will be performed together with
a 15-minute intermission. For additional information, call 501-450-1343.

language, and mentions of abusive behavior, sex, violence, death, and negative
