Faculty Handbook 2025-2026

F.3.b. Internship Policies and Guidelines

Hendrix College encourages and requires experiential, hands-on learning as a part of every student’s education. The Hendrix Internship Program gives students the valuable opportunity to acquire direct, practical work experience paired with intentional learning components. This combination provides a rich setting for academic, personal, and career-oriented growth and reflection.

Generally, internship supervisors and internship sites serve as subject-matter experts on a student’s learning in the professional field of work during the internship. Faculty or staff of the College (depending on the credit option selected) then serve as mentors to bridge that professional learning to students’ academic and on campus experiences through intentional reflection and discussion opportunities.

Students have two main options for earning internship credit. The Odyssey-only option allows them to work towards PL Odyssey credit under the supervision of Career Services staff. The academic credit option allows them to earn academic credit under the supervision of Hendrix faculty. For a complete overview of the policies governing Odyssey and Academic Course Credit options, student eligibility, internship site approval, and the faculty role in internships, please view the information found in the current Hendrix Catalog

Administration

The Office of Career Services is responsible for administering and coordinating the internship program consistent with the policies and guidelines approved by the Hendrix Faculty, for keeping records of internship experiences, for doing the necessary publicizing, and for making periodic progress reports to the Faculty.

Internship Search, Application, and Registration

The Office of Career Services offers many support services to help students discover and secure internships including one-on-one meetings, workshops, Hire Hendrix posts, and various fairs and events throughout the year. Faculty referrals are welcomed, and students can book appointments through the Career Services Website. Once secured, internships must be registered with the Office of Career Services for approval.
