Language Skills

No previous knowledge of Chinese is required. All classes are taught in English.

Grades will not appear on each student’s Hendrix transcript, and do not figure into the cumulative GPA. Students must earn the equivalent of a “C” or better to be awarded transfer credit.

Students will pay normal Hendrix tuition. Accommodation, administrative fees, and utilities are estimated at approximately $1,500-$2,000 per semester. Each student is responsible for meals, airfare, visa costs, and personal spending money.

Financial Aid

Normally, all financial aid applies to tuition, including Hendrix scholarships. Students must pay accommodation costs to UIC. Students are encouraged to verify their situation through the Hendrix Financial Aid Office.

Students are required to secure a Chinese student visa to study in China. This can be done by visiting a Chinese consulate in person or through a visa services courier. The Office of International Programs will help with the process.

Most students will live in the Student Hostel Culture Village at UIC in a double-occupancy room with a Chinese student. Meal plans are not available, however there are affordable carry-out options on and near campus for approx. 8-50 RMB per meal.

Academic Calendar

The fall semester at UIC runs from early September to early January.  The spring semester is from mid-February to early June.  Students can attend either semester, or the full academic year.
