Study Abroad in a leading liberal arts environment in Zhuhai, China
Background
United
International College (UIC) is one of the leading liberal arts colleges in
China. It is located in Zhuhai, Guangdong
Province in Southern China. Zhuhai, with
a population of approximately 800,000 is a modern coastal city that is just a short ferry
ride from Hong Kong.
Courses
Students normally take 5-6 courses per
semester and can choose from twenty academic departments. Students will earn four Hendrix course credits.

Language Skills
No previous knowledge of Chinese is required. All classes are taught in English.
Grades/Credits
Grades will not appear on each student’s Hendrix transcript, and do not figure into the cumulative GPA. Students must earn the equivalent of
a “C” or better to be awarded transfer credit.
Costs
Students will pay normal Hendrix tuition.
Accommodation, administrative fees, and
utilities are estimated at approximately
$1,500-$2,000 per semester. Each student is
responsible for meals, airfare, visa costs, and
personal spending money.
Financial Aid
Normally, all financial aid applies to tuition,
including Hendrix scholarships. Students must
pay accommodation costs to UIC. Students are
encouraged to verify their situation through
the Hendrix Financial Aid Office.
Visas
Students
are required to secure a Chinese student visa to study in China. This can
be done by visiting a Chinese consulate in person or through a visa services
courier. The Office of International Programs will help with the
process.
Lodging/Food
Most
students will live in the Student Hostel Culture Village at UIC in a double-occupancy
room with a Chinese student. Meal plans are not available, however there are affordable carry-out options on and near campus for approx. 8-50 RMB per meal.
Academic Calendar
The fall semester at UIC runs from early
September to early January. The spring
semester is from mid-February to early June.
Students can attend either semester, or the full academic year.
