Students requesting transfer credit for courses already taken must first request an official transcript from the originating institution be sent to the Office of the Registrar. Transfer credit may be accepted, subject to the following conditions and restrictions.
The course(s) offered for transfer must be comparable in academic quality to Hendrix courses, have originated at an institution accredited by a regional accrediting organization, and have a recorded grade of C or better. Regional accrediting organizations
include: Higher Learning Commission, Middle States Commission, New England Commission, Northwest Commission, Southern Association, and Western Association. Questions about accepting accreditation by other organizations should be directed to the Registrar's
Office. Credit or Pass grades will not be accepted in transfer. For incoming transfer students, one credit will be awarded for every four semester-hours of accepted transfer work, rounding to the nearest whole credit. Once a student has matriculated
at Hendrix, one credit will be awarded for every accepted transfer course, provided the transfer course carries at least three semester-hours of academic weight.
Transfer credit must originate from courses taken at an accredited institution and those courses must appear on the student’s transcript from the originating institution. No transfer credit is awarded for courses that have been applied toward an earned
baccalaureate degree.
Current students are strongly urged to seek transfer approval from their adviser and the Registrar prior to enrollment in any course for which transfer approval might be sought. A form for this purpose may be obtained here or from the Office of the Registrar. The number of transfer courses that can be used to fulfill graduation requirements is determined by the residency requirement in the Program for the Bachelor of Arts Degree.
If a course is accepted for transfer credit, the grade from the originating institution will not appear on the Hendrix transcript or be included in the Hendrix GPA. Transfer grades will be recorded and included in the Hendrix grade point average if Hendrix
is the originating institution (such as the Academia dell’ Arte, Costa Rica, Hendrix-in-Washington, and ROTC programs). A course transferred in as a repeat course may not be used to replace a grade earned in the original Hendrix course.
Transcripts for students who studied abroad are evaluated based on the World Education Services (WES) conversion scales. Students should review the conversion scale for their corresponding study abroad country so they are aware of the grades needed in
order for their courses/credits to transfer back to Hendrix. If the corresponding country is not listed on the WES conversion website, then the student works with the
Study Abroad and Registrar’s Offices to have an alternate conversion scale approved before leaving for their study abroad semester.
Because of grading changes made due to COVID, courses with a grade of CR will be accepted in transfer if the following criteria are met:
- The transcript states that the CR grade is based on temporary COVID adaptation;
- The course was taken during the highly COVID impacted semesters of Spring 2019-2020, Fall 2020-2021, and Spring 2020-2021;
- Other Hendrix transfer credits policies are satisfied.
Military Transfer Credit Policy for Veterans
It is the policy of this institution that an evaluation of previous military education and training will be conducted, appropriate credit granted, and if applicable, the institution’s duration in the course will be shortened proportionately, and that
the Veteran’s Administration and the student will be so notified. VA credit will be given for prior training for veterans and eligible programs.
