Internships provide an opportunity for students to apply skills and knowledge developed in the classroom to workplace environments. They allow students to explore potential career and vocational strengths and investigate whether specific career paths
are exciting and relevant for their personal goals. Finally, internships are essential for securing employment upon graduation.
To participate in the internship program, students must be at least sophomore level and in good academic standing with the College. Students can pick from two internship pathways that earn either Odyssey credit or Odyssey and academic credit. The two
pathways are described in more detail below.
Internships for Odyssey Credit
Internships for Odyssey credit are administered by the Office of Career Services.
Requirements:
- 100 hours of professional experience,
- Internship site outside of Hendrix College,
- Professional Development Seminar participation and completion.
Registration & Administration:
- Before starting their internship, students must register the experience through the Office of Career Services for program approval. Once confirmed, these internships are pre-approved for Odyssey Credit in the PL category.
- Career Services staff will mentor interns, provide the Professional Development Seminar, and determine Odyssey Project completion and credit.
Internships for Academic and Odyssey Credit
Internships for academic and Odyssey credit are registered through the Office of Career Services and administered by a Hendrix faculty member. They are part of the student’s course schedule either as a summer class or a Fall / Spring semester class.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 120 hours of professional experience over a minimum of 8 weeks,
- Internship site outside of Hendrix College,
- Academic Internship Seminar & Professional Development Class participation and completion.
Registration & Administration:
- Before starting their internship, students must register the experience with and submit a completed Internship Drop/Add form through the Office of Career Services for program approval. Once confirmed, students will be added to the Academic Internship
Seminar course. Registered internships are also pre-approved for Odyssey Credit in the PL category.
- Designated Faculty Mentors will deliver content for the Academic Internship Seminar and Professional Development class and determine the awarding of both the academic and Odyssey credits. Students should refer to the current course schedule for Internship
Class schedules.
- Academic Credit Internship Considerations:
- Students may earn no more than one academic credit per internship.
- At most, two academic credit internships are allowed to count as course credits toward graduation.
- Students wishing to take an internship for credit as a fifth class must pay the fifth-class fee.
- Academic Credit Internships may be taken for a grade or for credit only.

Students registering an internship to fulfill a major or minor requirement should also provide the following (which will be flagged in their registration materials):
