The Hendrix Immersion Program (HIP) is a full-credit course that all entering Hendrix students will take during their first semester. HIP celebrates the many opportunities Hendrix offers our students. The course takes place in a small class setting one day per week, and then the campus itself becomes the classroom later in the week, as students attend on-campus events – artistic performances, campus lectures, athletic events, multi-cultural programs, and more. The course is designed to support students’ transition to Hendrix by immersing them in on-campus opportunities, to expand students’ horizons through engagement with new activities, and to promote student interactions with one another, within and beyond the classroom. In addition to the instructor, each section has a returning student, called a HIP-ster, who attends class meetings, provides a student perspective, and assists with the logistics of the course. Students should be encouraged to reach out to their HIP-ster as a resource.
HIP may not be dropped. Sections will be offered each semester to allow students who need to retake the course to do so. HIP is required of all entering students, including transfers.
