Dr.
John Adams worked as a teaching assistant in the Department of Biology while at
Hendrix. He went on to earn a M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Veterinary Medical Science from
the University of Illinois. He later became a professor at the University of Notre
Dame, where he taught from 1991-2007. Adams currently serves as a professor at the
College of Medicine at the University of South Florida in Tampa. His research on
the biology of malaria parasites focuses on new ways to control and prevent malaria,
a disease that claims a life every 30 seconds, making it the leading cause of death
and disease worldwide. Adams and his wife, Sheila, have two children.
