Course Planning

Theatre Arts and Dance - Where to Start?

The course planning advice here is limited to completing this major which is just one piece of the overall Hendrix College degree requirements.  For a full description of degree requirements see the Catalog.

Where should I start if I am just sampling this subject as a non-major?

    In the theatre program:
  • Any of the 100-level theatre (TART) courses are appropriate. The course, Introduction to Theatre (TART 100), provides an overview of the discipline.
  • Special topics courses in acting, performance and design (TART 391, 392, & 393) may be appropriate for new students regardless of experience. Please check course schedule for offerings. For details about the individual course, contact the department chair or the instructor of record.

  • All students, regardless of background, are encouraged to participate in theatre productions (aka Hendrix Players). Productions may carry theatre activity credits (TARA).
    In the dance program:
  • All dance technique courses (DANC) and Reading and Writing (DANC 250) are appropriate for new students regardless of experience.
  • Dance ensemble is available by audition at the beginning of the fall semester. Please contact the dance instructor for details.
