Olin C. Bailey Library

Research Support

Book an appointment online. Drop-ins are welcome!

Papers and assignments can be difficult in and of themselves, but sometimes getting started with research is the hardest part—especially if you have not done scholarly research in the past. Bailey Library is happy to now offer Research Support appointments with our Librarians and with our Library Associates—your fellow students. Appointments will be half-hour sessions of research guidance and advice on the first floor of the library.

Regardless of subject area, we can help you:

  • narrow-down or expand a research topic
  • choose keywords and phrases that will yield the best resources
  • use our online catalog and locate materials
  • navigate our extensive list of online databases
  • evaluate text or electronic sources for use in scholarly research
  • annotate and cite your findings

We will not do the research and/or citations for you; we will only help you understand and utilize the tools that are available to you.

In order to get the most out of a Research Support appointment, you should bring:

  • the description of the assignment, including any recommended or required source types or topics
  • your own topic ideas
  • questions regarding research—how to begin, how to manage your options, how to determine if a source is reputable, etc.
  • notes about what you've already tried or sources you've already found

For quick questions or for substantial research projects (e.g., a senior thesis), we recommend that you reach out to our Librarians directly at libraryreference@hendrix.edu.

Seniors wanting to keep materials such as books in a secured cubby at the library can now have access to an upper floor cabinet and shelves.  Consult the Senior Researcher Space page for more information.
