Personal Development and Self-Awareness

Helping students find the right path for their lives is one of The Office of Career Discovery's top priorities. We can help you discern your passions and goals for life as well as what your strengths and skills are through one-on-one conversations, workshops and presentations, events and more. Our counselors are readily available and want to discuss these topics with you. Often, though, students are confused or overwhelmed by the amount of information coming to them coupled with the weight of making important life decisions while at Hendrix. Our office offers the SDS and MBTI assessments as a way of cutting through the noise and seeing some black-and-white results that can oftentimes help students re-focus their energies or discover new paths they never new existed. While taking an assessment can't give you all the answers, it can provide objective feedback on your skills, preferences and strengths.

  • The Self-Directed Search® (SDS®) is a career interest test that asks questions about your aspirations, activities, skills, and interests in different jobs. From the responses, the SDS produces your personal three-letter Summary Code, which you can use to find occupations and fields of study that match well with your personality.
  • The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) can help your learn more about your strengths, preferences, and where your interests lie in order to help guide your decisions on a major and possible career.

Contact the Office of Advising and Academic Success to schedule an appointment to discuss these assessments and other tools that can help you in your decision making process.
