Quick Facts

Hometown: Dalton, Georgia

Degree: Hendrix College, Class of ’16, German and International Relations Double Major

Hobbies: traveling, trying out a new recipe, cheering on the Detroit Red Wings (even though they have not been doing great lately…), reading, spending too much time and money at coffee shops, game nights, finding a new favorite television series or movie, enjoying sun shine as much as I can

A word or phrase that describes me: on my best days- enthusiastically empathetic

Favorite Book and Movie: Impossible question. The entire Harry Potter series is a given, right? The last three books I read were: Kevin Kwan’s Crazy Rich Asians, Fredrik Backman’s Beartown, and Beck Dorey-Stein’s From the Corner of the Oval. I loved each and every one of them. The three movies that I can watch over and over again are: Pride and Prejudice (the 2005 version- controversial, I know), Big Fish, and Miracle.

What is your favorite college memory?

Any time my friends and I were working on assignments together and it was a particularly beautiful day, we would convince ourselves that we should move our stuff and find a table in the Pecan Grove. Every time, zero work was done, but the best conversations were had. It was always worth it.

What advice would you give to your incoming students?

Dream big dream. Be flexible. Work hard, but remember to have fun and find joy in life's oddities. Reach out. Listen to others' stories. Surround yourself with people who always have time for a chat and a pep talk. Carry an emergency umbrella with you at all times. Don't forget to step out of the bubble and explore. Hendrix is beautiful and full of cool stuff, but it is also surrounded by even more beauty and other cool stuff. Four years goes by quickly, so try and make the most out of it.

What are you passionate about?

Cross-Cultural Exchange and Access. I am a firm believer that the more people you meet along the way, the more you realize that we are not so different after all, that there is way more that unites us than divides us. The fun part is celebrating the things that set us apart. That gives me hope.

Who are your four fantasy dinner guests?

C.J. Cregg, Isabel Allende, John Oliver, and Michael Curry

Personal Quote

“Differences in habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open.”- J.K. Rowling’s Albus Dumbledore
