The HelpDesk articles below are aimed at new and incoming students to help you and learn about the technology environment and resources at Hendrix that may be different or new.

What kind of computer do I need?

Basics on getting an up-to-date laptop.

Do I have to buy a computer?

Nope, we have Computer Labs and Printers available around campus.

Do I need to bring my own printer?

Nope, we have a Mobile Printing service so you can send your print job to a printer in any of the computer labs and pick it up there.
If you choose to bring a printer, you must connect it with a cable directly to your computer. Personal printers are not allowed to connect to the Hendrix network.

Can you repair my laptop/computer?

Short answer, no, but we can still help you figure out what's wrong.

On the Hendrix Wireless Network, what is the difference between hndrxstdnt and HendrixIOT

hndrxstdnt is for your laptop, computer, or phone--devices that you might login with your Hx credentials and use to access Campus Web, Teams, and such.
HendrixIOT is for your gaming and smart devices that don't access your Hendrix identity and content.  Don't put your laptop or phone on the IOT network because they will jam up the gaming and streaming traffic.
We also have collected some tips for troubleshooting the wireless network from a variety of personal device types.
Use of personal wireless routers are not permitted. (They mess everything up.)

Do I need to use Microsoft365 and how do I get it?

Yes, your professors will generally expect you to submit documents in these formats or PDF.  It is Free to Download and Install Microsoft365.   Download and Install Teams while you are at it. Be sure to use your Hendrix login and password.

How often should I change my password?   What do you recommend to make the password change happen smoothly?

We offer recommendations for what to do to be prepared and to get reconnected with simple Password Management and Guidelines

Will my professors use Teams for my classes?  It is free too, right?

Yes, almost all professors use Teams to some extent, especially for communication. Be sure to talk to your professors about how they use Teams and use our articles to help navigate and meet their expectations.

Teams general use. Personalize your Teams settings and get oriented to one of our main tools for groups connections and communication.

OneDrive Access. Free online, backed up storage that you can sync to your onboard laptop files.

Webmail Access. Login directly from the website.   Watch for messages from your professors, leaders, and announcements from the College.
(Also a good pathway to online versions of all the Microsoft365 apps.)
