Participants and Eligibility

Eligibility requirementsWho is eligible to participate in Hendrix Recreational Sports intramurals activities?

  • All currently enrolled full time students (with valid Hendrix ID)
  • All currently enrolled part time students (with valid Hendrix ID)
  • All full-time faculty and staff members (with valid Hendrix ID)
  • All part-time faculty and staff members (with valid Hendrix ID)
  • All faculty and staff members immediate family over the age of 17 years.
  • Alumni of Hendrix who are members of the Alumni Association (with Alumni card and picture ID).

Free Agents
Free agents are individuals who are interested in playing intramurals but do not have a team.  All free agents are encouraged to attend the captains meeting in order to speak directly to teams that may need players.

Captain Responsibility
The team captain is a vital link between the individuals participating in a sport and the Hendrix Recreational Sports staff; for this reason, any person assuming the role of team captain has a number of responsibilities including:

  • Turn in a registration form including your contact information, team’s name, and preliminary roster before the registration deadline. 
  • Attend the scheduled captains meeting at the beginning of the season.
  • Make sure that all members of your team are eligible to play in an intramural activity. This includes verifying their status as students, faculty, staff or alumni.
  • Be familiar with all Hendrix Recreational Sports policies, procedures, rules and schedules and pass along their importance to team members.
  • Inform all team members of game times and locations. This includes checking the playoff schedules when they are posted.
  • Submit the finalized playoff roster within the requested time period assuring all participants have played at least the minimum number of games and are only listed on one eligible team.
  • Be at the game site 15 minutes prior to the start of every contest in order to be sure that the team roster is recorded on the score sheet.
  • Make sure that all team members present a valid ID prior to the start of every game. IDs help us keep track of your team’s participation so please encourage your team members to comply.
  • Make sure every team member has the appropriate equipment and jersey color for each contest.  This includes identifying illegal equipment and changing it out prior to game start time.
  • Assist the Hendrix Recreational Sports Staff with game postponements and scheduling issues.  See Postponement section of this handbook for more information.
  • Assist the Hendrix Recreational Sports Staff with the enforcement of the sportsmanship policy and stress its importance to each team member. See the Sportsmanship Policy section of this handbook for more information.
  • Represent each member of the team and be the only one to discuss rule interpretations and calls with the officials.
  • Cooperate with the Intramural Supervisors at the site concerning protests, incidents or accidents that may occur.
  • Communicate with the Hendrix Recreational Sports staff throughout the season about any issues that concern your team.

Team Member ResponsibilityThe Hendrix Recreational Sports Staff is very proud to offer a wide variety of activities for the Hendrix community. Each person who participates in an intramural activity assumes a number of responsibilities including:

  • Know your team’s game time and location.
  • Be at the site 15 minutes prior to the start of every activity to sign in and be sure that your name is properly recorded on the roster.
  • Bring a valid Hendrix ID to every activity. ID’s are required at all intramural activities and should be presented each time you plan to participate.
  • Be familiar with all Hendrix Recreational Sports policies, procedures, rules and schedules including the Sportsmanship Policy. See the Sportsmanship Policy section of this handbook for more information.

Cooperate with the Hendrix Recreational Sports Staff at all times. Captains should be the only ones speaking to supervisors or officials to dispute rule interpretations and initiate protests.
