CARES Reporting Information

The following information is provided as required by the Department of Education in relation to Hendrix College disbursement of funds received under the CARES act.

  1. An acknowledgement that the institution signed and returned to the Department the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that the institution has used, or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

  2. The total amount of funds that the institution will receive or has received from the Department pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement [for] Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.

    The total amount of funds received was $2,579,126.

  3. The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of the date of submission (i.e., as of the 30-day Report and every 45 days thereafter).

    • The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students as of 5/12/2020 was $287,000.
    • The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students as of 7/21/2020 was $486,463.20
    • The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students as of 12/31/2020 was $525,283.20
    • The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students as of 9/30/2021 was $2,263,461
    • The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students as of 12/31/2021 was $2,579,126  
  4. The estimated total number of students at the institution eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

    • The total number of students eligible is estimated at 1391.
  5. The total number of students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

    • As of 5/12/2020, 410 students have received funding.
    • As of 7/21/2020, 585 students have received funding.
    • As of 12/31/2020, 616 students have received funding.
    • As of 09/30/2021, 1517 student have received funding.
    • As of 12/31/2021, 1514 students have received funding.
  6. The method(s) used by the institution to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how much they would receive under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

    A task force consisting of senior leadership and top administrators was created to disburse the funds. Initially, 410 students with a FAFSA filed that showed an EFC of under $10,000 were granted $700 each.

    A form was made available to all students to request a grant. These requests will be reviewed by the task force to assure compliance with regulations.

    For HEERF 3 funding, all students enrolled as of 9/1/2021 were given a grant that ranged from $500 - $2000 based on EFC information from their FAFSA. If not FAFSA was present, the student was granted $500

    Students were then allow to request additional money until the grant was exhausted.

  7. Any instructions, directions, or guidance provided by the institution to students concerning the Emergency Financial Aid Grants.

    Students were sent the following email on 5/8/2020 encouraging them to apply for funding:

    As you may be aware, Hendrix College has received $528,000 in federal CARES Act funds to help current students offset COVID19 pandemic-related expenses.

    The College will distribute $288,000 to 410 students with significant need, determined based upon information contained in their FAFSA.

    You are encouraged to apply for a portion of the remaining CARES Act funds.

    The first round of funding decisions will be made beginning Friday, May 15. Students will be notified by Thursday, May 21.

    We expect requests to exceed the amount of funding available, so we encourage you to apply as soon as possible. The application form is available at https://www.hendrix.edu/forms/hendrixcares .
