Student Senate

How Senate Operates

What is Senate?

Senate is a student-led organization charged with participating in the governance of the college community, giving direction and voice to student concerns, and providing a framework for a number of activities and services for students. With 15 Senators, 14 Senate Committees, a 7-member Executive Committee, and 2 advisers, we are a diverse body of students focused on improving the Hendrix community and on representing YOU.

How do I become involved in Senate?

There are many ways to get involved with Senate!  The easiest way is to get in touch with your Senator. Senators are students elected to represent you, based either on class year or place of residence. Each week, your Senator will send you notes from our most recent meeting. Notes outline changes that are being made on campus, concerns that we are working on, hiring decisions, upcoming events, announcements from our Senate Committees, and events or projects that Senate is funding. We encourage you to read your weekly Senate notes and to respond to your Senator with any feedback you may have.

You can also be an involved constituent by attending our meetings, interacting with us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat, submitting to our anonymous suggestion box across from the mailboxes, submitting to our online suggestion box, emailing us at Senate@hendrix.edu, or stopping by our office!

When does Senate meet?

Senate meets every Tuesday of the academic year at 6:30 p.m. in Campbell Dining Hall.

How can I express my opinion during a Senate meeting?

Students are always invited to attend Senate meetings. Our meetings are run according to Parliamentary Procedure. You're welcome to jump into the conversation with your input. Just raise your hand and wait to be called on.
