She has also done research in oxidative stress in the liver at Hendrix with chemistry professor Dr. Andres Caro. Her career goal is to obtain an M.D./Ph.D. in order to conduct translational research in hematological oncology.

Fobare, who is currently interviewing for medical schools, will pursue a master’s degree in Research in Oncology if selected for the Rhodes Scholarship. She will interview for the Rhodes Scholarship on November 19 in Chicago, Illinois.

“Sydney is one of the most gifted and accomplished undergraduates specializing in biomedical science to attend Hendrix College,” said Hendrix President Bill Tsutsui. “Over the past three years, Sydney has distinguished herself as a relentlessly curious team player who takes nothing – and no one – for granted. Sydney will use her studies at Oxford to advance her work as a physician-scientist whose research and clinical practice will improve lives on both sides of the Atlantic.”
