Searching for a new Warriors mascot

CONWAY, Ark. (Dec. 19, 2005) - Hendrix College is inviting its students, faculty, staff and alumni to help the college choose a new intercollegiate athletics Warriors mascot. The college has not had a Warriors mascot image for its athletic teams, the Warriors, since it dropped its Native American mascot in 2001.

"Hendrix has 17 men's and women's athletics teams, and we think it's time to adopt a mascot that will represent our teams in a positive way and still maintain the Warriors spirit and tradition," said Hendrix President J. Timothy Cloyd.

Joyce Hardin, Hendrix vice president for student affairs, announced a contest to select the new logo. Entrants can submit a graphic rendering of a logo or a concept that keeps the Warriors name. Native American images or images with trademarks will not be accepted.

All proposed designs must use official Hendrix colors: orange (Pantone Matching System 158) and black.

The person submitting the winning idea or design must relinquish all rights concerning the design. Contest entries must be submitted by Feb. 1 to mascot@hendrix.edu, or addressed to Mascot, Campus Box 3594, Hendrix College, Conway, Ark. 72032. The first entrant of the winning concept will receive an iPod , an iPod stereo unit and a $100 Hastings gift certificate.

The contest will be judged by a review committee of students representing a variety of student groups on campus including class, the Student Senate, athletics, intramurals and residence life. The committee will select up to 10 distinctive concepts for consideration by the Hendrix senior staff.

The final concept will be chosen by senior staff in consultation with the review committee and the athletic department by April 2006. The Hendrix community will be invited to comment on the final entries.

The final concept will be presented to the Hendrix Board of Trustees in May 2006 and then will be submitted to a professional design firm for refinement. The final image will be unveiled in October 2006 at the Hendrix Board of Trustees meeting.
