Our program is designed for all students. In fact, over 15% of the total student body is involved in the Music Department in some way. Our focus on engaged learning experiences makes music an integral part of Hendrix’s college-wide Odyssey program, the philosophy of which is “You learn more when you do more.” While at Hendrix, students may engage in:
* Performance-based learning opportunities, such as private lessons and ensembles, and
* Academic studies exploring areas of music history, theory, and relevant topics.
Both learning areas help students develop a comprehensive and nuanced appreciation of music.
Facilities
Hendrix students perform and rehearse in venues including the 800-seat Staples Auditorium, Reves Recital Hall (160 seats), and the beautiful Greene Chapel. The Chapel also houses an exquisite organ, installed in 1997 and enhanced in 2004 by local organ builders Nichols & Simpson.
The offices of the Department of Music are located in the Creative Quad, a first-class facility for the creative arts in the heart of campus. The Creative Quad also has classroom space and ten music practice rooms. In addition to the Creative Quad, some classes and rehearsals take place in the Trieschmann Fine Arts Building.
