When making videos of your lectures or lessons there are a couple of simple things you can do to improve the quality of the recording.

1. Be aware of your position in the screen, ideally you should be position in the center of the frame and comfortably visible.

No, that's too close

That could be too far depending on what you are doing.

2. Be aware of the lighting in your recording space, the best option is a natural balanced light

There is too much light behind the presenter in this image, it will be difficult for the viewers to look at for a long period of time. The presenter is well framed in the image tho.

This image is clearly too dark and the presenter is in the lower portion of the frame

I couldn't get an image that was too bright all over but for obvious reasons that would be even more difficult than the first photo to look at over a long period.

This image is a a fairly successful example of well balanced lighting and good frame placement.

2. Audio is a very similar in that you need to have awareness of your surroundings. Lucky for us, most of our laptops and webcams have pretty great sound suppression so it shouldn't be super vital

   A. Be sure you are recording in a quiet space, listen for fans, loud ACs or any adjacent construction

   B. If possible, try and use a space that doesn't have a ton of hard surfaces (like an empty office) this may be unavoidable if you are using a classroom space. You may create a reverb effect and there may be some echoing.

   C. If you need a quality of sound your laptop cannot provide please contact helpdesk and ask for our help on selecting the audio equipment that will work for you.

Finally, ask for feedback, please remember that the helpdesk is available to do test calls if you are not sure about your lighting, sound or method of insturction (webcams, sharing screens etc) feel free to contact us at any time to schedule a test call.
