Hendrix students
have established a strong track record of success in gaining admission to
medical school. Over the past decade, almost 75 % of Hendrix pre-med students
have received offers from one or more medical schools, far exceeding the national average of 45 %. These offers have come from 50
different osteopathic (DO) and allopathic (MD) programs across 28 states.
This
high acceptance reflects Hendrix’s rigorous, well-rounded
curriculum, and the opportunities available to students through
coursework, athletics, extracurricular activities, and engaged learning experiences
to develop the key competencies, such as leadership, resilience, communication,
and teamwork, that medical schools highly value.
To support
pre-med students on their journey, Hendrix College offers a comprehensive advising program. Each pre-med
student is paired with a dedicated faculty mentor and receives additional guidance from the Pre-Med Advising Committee (PMAC). Together, they help students with course planning, identifying shadowing and clinical opportunities, and navigating the medical school application process.
Pre-med mentors also provide tailored support to students who are reapplying to medical school to help them identify gap year opportunities and strategies to strengthen their future applications to medical school.
In addition, Hendrix is home to a chapter of
Alpha Epsilon Delta, the National Health Preprofessional Honor Society, and the
campus boasts a student-run organization, MD2B, which hosts monthly meetings,
and organizes talks and panel discussions on a variety of medical topics.
