Melissa Joiner

Phonathon Student Manager, Senior Psychology & French Double Major from Little Rock, AR

Anticipated Graduation May 2020

Hi, I'm Melissa! I'm from Little Rock, Arkansas, and I'm currently a junior here at Hendrix. I enjoy reading, traveling, and gardening in my free time. When I'm on campus, I can usually be found in psychology or French classes, as those are my two major fields! One thing I appreciate about Hendrix is the school's motto of "unto the whole person." Hendrix fulfills this statement through having intelligent, passionate professors, as well as through providing students with a myriad of different activities (like Shirttails) and opportunities (like Odyssey projects) to take part in. I love being at Hendrix and sharing my love for the school with others!

Ndimbira Larissa Fall 2018

Larissa Isimbi Ndimbira

Phonathon Caller, Senior Accounting Major from Kigali, Rwanda

Anticipated Graduation 2020

Hi, my name is Larissa Isimbi Ndimbira from Rwanda. I am the treasurer of Ngoma African Student Association and a phonathon student caller. Dancing, watching movies, and learning about people from different cultural background are some of pastimes. I enjoy phonathon because it is a way to help raise funds to support students like me who would not be here if it was not for the generous gifts from Hendrix Alumni. In some way, being a phonathon caller prepares me for my career as an accounting major. Hendrix attracted me due to the wonderful scholarship offer I received and the overall culture and structure of Hendrix, from small classes to different cultural clubs at Hendrix. Coming from a different culture, it is significant to have the opportunity to learn about other cultures, express, and share my culture through events made possible by the financial sponsorship from the annual fund.

Valley, Kennedy Spring 2019

Kennedy Valley

Phonathon Caller, Senior Neuroscience Major & Music Minor from North Little Rock, AR

Anticipated Graduation 2020

Hi! My name is Kennedy, and I’m a senior neuroscience major and music minor. This will be my third semester being a student caller.

My hometown is North Little Rock, AR, and although it is not very far from Hendrix, I still consider the college to be my home. I keep myself busy through participating in the choir and wind ensemble, along with being a teaching assistant in the Cell Biology lab. Since my first semester I have kept a long-running show, The Compilation, on KHDX (Wednesdays at 8:00 PM).

What I love so much about Hendrix is the fantastic liberal arts education that I am receiving. Through this education, I will graduate as not only a neuroscientist, but a knowledgeable, well-rounded citizen.

I enjoy being a student caller because of the great conversations and connections I can make with alumni and parents, as well as the support I can raise for the Annual Fund. Without the Annual Fund, it would not be possible for me to attend Hendrix, so doing my part to help others have the same great experiences is one of the most beneficial parts of what I do.
