Squirrels! Leave behind the
campfire and put down the whittlin’ knife to troop with your troop up to
Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Don’t worry, you won’t have to leave
nature for long—Crystal Bridges has great hiking trails and even better
landscape paintings, such as Sunset on the River by George Inness and Green
River, Wyoming by Thomas Moran. If you want to take a break from the rugged
outdoors, check out Georgia O’Keeffe’s Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1 or
the museum’s great Alfred Stieglitz Collection. Looking at art is hard work!
Cool down by joining troop leader Anna King and her tireless helpers Andrew
Fleming, Emily Holmes, and Ella Thomas for a plunge in the nearby lake. On
Saturday, you’ll ditch the jerky and trail mix for a lovely meal at the amazing
Eleven restaurant inside the museum. Afterward, you can wander around the
galleries or hit the woods outside before heading back to the cabins to hang
out and rest up. Art merit badge: complete!
