Space Grant Awards

CONWAY, Ark. (Oct. 4, 2006) - Three professors at Hendrix College have received funding from the Arkansas Space Grant Consortium (ASGC) to pursue group scientific research projects. The ASGC's Collaborative Research Awards allows $15,000 per project funding that is matched from colleges represented in the research. The grants are renewable for up to three years.

Gabriel Ferrer, Hendrix assistant professor of computer science, is a co-principal investigator for the project, "Development of Algorithms for Cooperating Multi-Robotic Systems." Other investigators on the project are three researchers from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Cang Ye, Sean Ceoghehan and Srini Ramaswamy.

Robert Dunn, Hendrix professor of physics, is principal investigator on the project, "Geophysical Tools for Exploring the Moon and Mars." Other researchers on the project are Haydar Al-Shukri and Hanan Mahdi of UALR.

Warfield Teague, Hendrix chemistry professor, is a co-principal investigator on the project, "Interdisciplinary Research of Dissolved Organic Carbon in Arkansas Water Systems and Its Impact on Carbon Cycle and Ecosystems." Other project investigators are Xiadong Ma and Nawab Ali of UALR.

All of the collaborative awards include funding for students to assist in the investigative work.

The Arkansas Space Grant Consortium administers the NASA National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program and the NASA Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research. ASGC is now in its 16th year of research work.
