Hendrix Mock Trial Team Closes Successful Season

CONWAY, Ark. (February 6, 2015) – Two Hendrix College Mock Trial Association teams ended their competition season at the American Mock Trial Association regional tournament in Dallas, Texas.

Two students won individual awards:

  • Nigel Halliday ‘16 won a Top Attorney award
  • Brittany Webb ’15 won a Top Witness award

“When I started this organization three years ago, I never imagined we would be where we are,” Webb said. “I have watched the program grow into a strong and powerful team that not only has the capacity to compete in the same circuit as nationally ranked teams, but be on a similar competitive level. I am proud to represent the only mock trial team in the state of Arkansas with my fellow teammates.”

Professor Mary Richardson is their faculty advisor. Hendrix alumnus Shawn Johnson ’98 served as the teams’ attorney coach and has volunteered with the program for the past three years, Richardson said.

Season Highlights

  • Red Team went to three tournaments: Plano, Texas Invitational in October; Columbia, Mo. Invitational in January; and the AMTA Regional in Dallas, Texas in January.
  • Red Team had win/loss records of 5-3 (5th place), 5-3 (5th Place), and 3-5 respectively.
  • Brittany Webb ‘15 won Top Witness awards at all three tournaments.
  • Nigel Halliday ‘16 won Top Attorney awards at Columbia and Dallas.
  • Brittany Webb also serves with eight other students from colleges and universities across the nation (including Harvard and Georgetown) on the American Mock Trial Student Advisory Board.
  • Blue Team went to two tournaments: Columbia, Mo. Invitational in January; and the AMTA Regional in Dallas, Texas in January.
  • Blue Team had win/loss records of 3-1-4 and 3-5 respectively.
