CONWAY,
Ark. (September 19, 2014) – Hendrix College Multicultural Student Services’
first lecture of the social justice series “I Am the Movement: Social
Justice Starts with You” will feature Krishna Hari Pushkar, Joint Secretary of
the Government of Nepal and the Fullbright Humphrey Fellow, who will speak
on Monday, Sept. 29., at 4 p.m., in Mills A.
A Fulbright Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow for
2014-2015 at the University of Michigan, Pushkar is a Joint Secretary of the
Government of Nepal. He has served in several top governmental positions,
including the post of Director General, Chief District Officer and Joint
Secretary, and has worked in the Ministry of Labor and Employment, Home
Affairs, and the Foreign Affairs. He represented his government in several
bilateral and multilateral international forums. He has been working for the
last 16 years in civil service of Nepal. Pushkar has special expertise in areas
such as international labor migration, trafficking control, conflict
management, security, and diplomatic dealings.
Pushkar will discuss the Kafala System in
the Middle East,particularly Qatar and plight of Migrant workers under the
recent controversy of FIFA world cup stadiums. Most of the migrant workers in Middle
East are from South Asia and the surrounding countries. It is projected
that at least 1,200 migrant workers had died by the end of March this year and
the number could reach up to 4,000 deaths by the time the soccer ball is kicked
for the opening ceremony in 2022.
At the event, the Multicultural Student Services will
unveil this year's "Wall of Acceptance."
