Hendrix to Host Rohwer Photography Exhibit

(September 11, 2014) – The Hendrix College Department of Art will “Rohwer, Arkansas, Japanese Internment Camp, July 1945,” an exhibit featuring photographs by Paul Faris, a Hendrix faculty member from 1928 – 1971 and documentary research by Ann Faris and Sarah Wilkerson-Freeman.

The exhibit will be Wednesday, Oct. 15 – Friday, Nov. 7, in Art Building A. The exhibit is open for viewing Monday - Friday, 3:30 - 5:30 p.m.

There will be a lecture by Arkansas State University history professor Dr. Sarah Wilkerson-Freeman on Thursday, Oct. 23, from 5 – 6 p.m., in Art Building A110, followed by a reception from 6 – 6:30 p.m.

In 1945 Paul and Ann Faris had the unique opportunity to make documentary photographs of the lives of some of the 8,000 detained Japanese Americans. This important show of rare photographs highlights an historical event that should not be forgotten.
