Hendrix SnapShots: Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre

NARRATOR:

If you're around the college during June and crave fresh air and entertainment, you can find both right across the street courtesy of The Village at Hendrix and Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre .

MARY RUTH MAROTTE '95, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, ARKANSAS SHAKESPEARE THEATRE

Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre is the state's only professional Shakespeare Theatre. We run four shows in repertory every June, and we really feel like our shows are accessible, they're fun, especially out here at The Village, where you can come out and just ... it's very relaxed and laid back and you can have a picnic and you can enjoy the outdoors. There's really a good atmosphere for your first Shakespeare if you've never seen one before.

IRA GRACE '15, MARKETING INTERN/ACTOR

I'm doing the marketing and education aspects of it as well as performing in Bottoms Dream, which is a children's adaptation a Midsummer Night’s Dream. In that I am Flute and I operate one of the puppets. We're doing Japanese [unknown] puppetry, and I operate one of the puppet fairies.

MAROTTE:

As far as like people getting involved, Hendrix students, we've had probably a couple dozen Hendrix students involved as interns over the past seven years. One we've had actually is in his third season here as an acting intern this year. Jordan Breckenridge is his name. And we love it. We love having the involvement in that way. Please get on the website if you're interested in and get involved. It’s a great opportunity to get involved in professional theater in the state – the only opportunity.
