Hendrix College has been a proud member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference for many years.
This fine conference has included Austin College in Sherman, Texas; Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Ala.; Centre College in Danville, Ky.; Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colo.; DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.; Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss.; Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Ga.; Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn.; The University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn.; Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas; Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, and, of course, Hendrix College.
In competing with peers at SCAC institutions who share a mutual love of scholarship and sportsmanship, our student athletes have enjoyed athletic experiences that have been life enriching, to say the least.
Given the challenges of time for our student athletes and the need for efficiency in the application of our resources, we recently announced that Hendrix would be joining seven other schools in the formation of a new NCAA Division III conference, which has yet to be given a name. Joining Hendrix in this new conference are Berry College of Rome, Ga., Birmingham-Southern, Centre, Millsaps, Oglethorpe, Rhodes and Sewanee. Of these schools, only Berry College was not previously a member of the SCAC.
I think it is important to underscore that, from our perspective, the new conference was born of practicality and anticipated efficiencies for those colleges that have chosen to participate and not for any other reasons. The SCAC has been an important part of the lives of thousands who have joined the Hendrix family over the years. We have nothing but fondness for our sister institutions in the SCAC and we wish them continued success in the future.
