CONWAY, ARK. (April 8, 2010) – Hundreds of Hendrix College alumni will be returning for the college’s annual Alumni Weekend festivities and will help celebrate the opening of Hendrix’s new $26 million Student Life and Technology Center (SLTC).
Alumni and friends of the college are expected to return to campus from April 16-18 with many of the weekend’s activities taking place in the SLTC. The weekend will begin Friday with the annual Half Century Club luncheon, honoring alumni that will be celebrating the 50th year anniversary of their graduation, and conclude Sunday with a memorial service honoring deceased alumni.
Hendrix opened its new student center in January, but Alumni Weekend will be the first time many alumni have seen the new state-of-the-art facility. Click here for more information about Alumni Weekend at Hendrix.
The weekend will also feature the “last lecture” presentation of long-time English professor Dr. Chuck Chappell, who is retiring at the end of the school year. The last lecture is a traditional event allowing retiring faculty to present a farewell message to former and current students, along with family and friends. Chappell’s last lecture will take place at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Mills Center.
Additionally, the annual Hendrix Alumni Association awards brunch will occur at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the SLTC. Honorees include: Mary Ann Gwinn ’73, Distinguished Alumna Award; Dr. Harry Harmon ’64, Humanitarian Award; Amy Dunn Johnson ’96, Outstanding Young Alumna Award; and Matt House ’96, Outstanding Young Alumnus Award.
