Duct-tape tux nets $3,000

Duct-Tape freshmanCONWAY, Ark. (July 10, 2009) –Incoming Hendrix College freshman John Dyer put his creative talents to work to become the national winner of the ninth annual Duct Tape brand “Stuck at Prom” Scholarship Contest. He and his date, Izzy Bristow, each received a $3,000 scholarship for the duct-tape-made outfits they wore to John’s prom this past spring at Lakewood High School in Colorado.

Dyer and Bristow were featured by the Denver Post Friday. More pictures of their outfits are viewable at the Web site of Denver’s NBC affiliate. They beat out 215 couples from 40 states and four Canadian provinces for their stuck-together getups.

Izzy's outfits consumed 35 rolls of tape, including tiny pieces of blue, green, purple and lime-green among the 20 colors.

Hendrix, founded in 1876, is a selective, residential, undergraduate liberal arts college emphasizing experiential learning in a demanding yet supportive environment.
