Cliff Garrison, Earlene Hannah retire

Two longtime members of the Hendrix College faculty recently entered retirement.

Cliff Garrison, Professor of Kinesiology, coached the Warrior men’s basketball team for 31 years. At the time of his retirement from coaching in 2003, he had the highest victory total among active college basketball coaches in the state (463-377). During his time at Hendrix College, Garrison has earned numerous accolades, including NAIA District 17 and SCAC Coach of the Year. Garrison was inducted into the Hendrix College Sports Hall of Honor in 1999 and into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.

Earlene Hannah, Professor of Kinesiology, became Hendrix College’s first full-time female athletics staffer in 1974. A graduate of Northeast Louisiana University, Hannah spent her years at Hendrix in a variety of different roles. She coached swimming, tennis, and volleyball and taught physical education courses. Since her coaching retirement in 1997, Hannah has served as a full-time professor and the athletics department’s senior woman administrator.

Garrison and Hannah were honored at a faculty appreciation convocation in April and at the 125th commencement ceremony on May 9.
