Griffin returns to Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. (Nov. 19, 2008) – Hendrix alumnus Tim Griffin, a former U.S. Attorney and advisor to President George W. Bush, will be returning to campus Thursday as part of the college’s Hendrix Alumni Doing Democracy (HADD) series.

Griffin, a 1990 Hendrix graduate, will be the speaker at a public talk entitled “Post-Mortem: A Republican Strategist’s Analysis of Election 2008,” beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Mills B, located inside the Mills Center on campus.  He will meet informally with members of the Hendrix community at 4:15 at the Mills Library.

Sponsored by the college’s Project Pericles, HADD unites alumni associated with public and governmental affairs with current students.

Griffin is the Principal and General Counsel of Griffin Public Affairs, LLC (GPA), a political consulting and lobbying firm based in Little Rock.  From 2006-2007, he served as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas; and from 2001-2002 he served as an appointee at the U.S. Department of Justice where he was Special Assistant to the Assistant Attorney General, Michael Chertoff, the Criminal Division Chief.  From 1997-1999, Griffin served as Senior Investigative Counsel to the Government Reform Committee, U.S. House of Representatives.  

During the second term of the Bush Administration, Griffin served as Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of the Office of Political Affairs at the White House.  In that capacity, he advised President George W. Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney and organized and coordinated support for the President’s agenda, including the nomination of Judge John G. Roberts, Jr. to be Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.  Earlier, Griffin served as Research Director and Deputy Communications Director for the Republican National Committee (RNC) during the 2004 presidential campaign, Deputy Research Director for the RNC during the 2000 presidential campaign and as legal advisor to the 2000 Bush-Cheney Recount Team in Florida.

Griffin is currently serving in his 11th year as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps and holds the rank of Major.  He was mobilized to active duty in 2005 as an Army prosecutor at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and served with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) in Mosul, Iraq, for which he was awarded the Combat Action Badge.
