Former students return to Conway for three-day Alumni Weekend
CONWAY, ARK. – Hendrix College alumni returning for the college’s annual Alumni Weekend festivities will be greeted with several new and exciting features of the college, including the new 100,000-square-foot Wellness and Athletic Center and demonstrations of two new competitive team sports.
More than 300 alumni and friends of the college are expected to return to campus this weekend. They will receive exclusive tours of the new state-of-the-art wellness center, and demonstrations of the school’s new field hockey and lacrosse programs – the first NCAA-level sports of their kind in Arkansas.
The Wellness and Athletic Center houses an indoor track, four indoor tennis courts, a gymnasium and special events center, an indoor soccer court, a 26-foot-high climbing wall, an aquatic center with an 8-lane competitive swimming pool, a diving pool, a sun porch and a retractable roof; and a state-of-the-art fitness center with treadmills, elliptical trainers, stationary bicycles equipped with internet access, free weights, and other fitness components.
Alumni Weekend festivities begin Friday with the Half Century Club luncheon – honoring Hendrix graduates of 1957 and prior – and end with an alumni memorial worship service on Sunday, along with several athletic events Sunday afternoon. Other highlights of Alumni Weekend include:
· Hendrix athletic Hall of Honor induction dinner Friday night.
· Various class reunion parties throughout central Arkansas Friday night.
· The Alumni Association Awards Convocation beginning at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, honoring distinguished alumni.
· Hendrix alumni authors/artists book signing Saturday afternoon.
· Alumni soccer and volleyball games.
· A quiz bowl competition with retired and current faculty, alumni and students.
· Legends of Hendrix Lecture Saturday evening presented by Dr. John Farthing.
· The All-Alumni Reunion Party Saturday night.
· Hendrix Warrior softball games versus Austin College and Hendrix baseball games versus Millsaps College on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
