Assistant Professor of English - Film Studies

The Department of English at Hendrix College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Film Studies to begin 1 August 2014. The successful candidate will be prepared to expand our existing curriculum within at least one of the following areas: 1) television studies and new media; 2) global cinema; 3) film history; 4) introductory production and study of digital film and media. In addition to teaching introductory and advanced film courses, mentoring film-related engaged learning projects, and contributing to the vitality of the Department’s track in Film Studies, other teaching responsibilities may include introductory and advanced writing, literary studies courses, and a first-year interdisciplinary team-taught course entitled The Engaged Citizen. Applicants must have in hand a Ph.D. in English, Film Studies, or a related field—or supply evidence that the degree will be awarded—by the summer of 2014. Skype interviews will be conducted in mid-December.

Application should include a letter addressing the candidate’s interest in teaching in a demanding liberal arts environment, a curriculum vitae and three letters of recommendation (including the phone numbers and email addresses of the referees), and transcripts of all graduate and undergraduate work.  Applications from candidates with an interest in participating in the common freshman course and other interdisciplinary programs, and in using instructional technology where appropriate, will be particularly welcome.  Application materials should be sent by November 11, 2013 through ByCommittee.  Email questions to stuber@hendrix.edu.
