Symetra Supplemental Insurances

Hendrix College offers full-time employees a variety of supplemental insurances beyond standard health and welfare offerings such as health, dental and vision.  Here we provide a brief look at what those benefits are for more information please refer to the 2026 Hendrix Benefit Guide.

Life Insurance - Hendrix provides all full-time employees with a life insurance policy in an amount equal to one-times their annual salary. This coverage is effective the first day of the month following their hire date. In addition, a supplemental term life policy is available for additional coverage on employees and their families. If this coverage is not added while a new employee, it can be added during the annual open enrollment period and enrollees may be required to complete evidence of insurability. You may update your beneficiary anytime by completing a Change of Beneficiary form and emailing it to Human Resources.

Short-Term Disability (STD) & Long-Term Disability (LTD) - This benefit provides 60% of gross average wages for work missed due to a non-work related injury or illness (see policy book for more detailed description). This coverage is available to new employees with guaranteed issuance. Employees who add this coverage during open enrollment may be required to complete evidence of insurability forms. Critical Illness - This insurance provides supplemental coverage for critical illnesses to provide additional financial protection when facing illness. This insurance can be added by new employees or during the open enrollment period.

Accident Insurance - This insurance provides coverage against the unexpected costs resulting from an accident. This insurance can be added by new employees or during the open enrollment period.

MASA Ambulance Insurance - This insurance provides an additional layer of financial protection from the out-of-pocket costs of medical transportation.

Trustmark Life & Long-Term Care - This insurance provides two-in-one coverage; you get both life insurance and care benefits (professional or from a family member/friend) following the loss of at least two of the six activities of daily living.
