Hendrix College Dining Services Brings Home Three Gold Awards in NACUFS Competition

CONWAY, Ark. (July 13, 2021) – The National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS) has announced the recipients of the NACUFS 2020 Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards, and once again, Hendrix Dining Services came away with high honors.

Competing with other small institutions nationwide, Hendrix Dining Services received three Gold Awards in the categories of Residential Dining Facility; Residential Dining – Special Event (for ’80s Rewind Day in the Caf); and Catering – Special Event (a French Quarter-themed brunch provided for the Board of Trustees).

“Our team works exceptionally hard to provide an outstanding dining experience for our campus every day, but that hard work especially shines for our special events,” said Dawn Hearne, director of dining services for the College. “Our staff truly care about providing unmatched food and service and are very deserving of this national honor.”

Named for a NACUFS founder, past president, and highly regarded innovator, the Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards celebrate exemplary menus, presentations, special event planning, and new dining concepts, and provide an avenue for sharing ideas and creative presentations in campus dining services.

Fifty-eight member institutions across North America submitted entries in six categories. A team of six judges and a committee chair safely gathered in East Lansing in June 2021 to examine each entry and selected top candidates in each category. Competing for these prestigious awards helps reinforce the success of dining programs nationwide and builds a sense of pride and team spirit among dining staff. Sharing creativity and knowledge with other foodservice professionals is a key component of NACUFS membership.

All winners are listed on the NACUFS website. The Grand Prize winners will be announced at a later date.
