Question of the Month
Does everyone have this all figured out but me?
|
As your second year begins, you may want to consider the following:
- You should be working toward fulfilling your Odyssey requirements for graduation.
You can earn Odyssey credits by taking pre-approved courses, participating in pre-approved activities, or proposing an independently designed project. You must have a minimum of three different experiences chosen from three of the six Odyssey categories. When you graduate, your Odyssey Transcript will be a permanent record of your experiences. For more information about the Odyssey Program, contact the Odyssey Office at 501-505-2950, e-mail odyssey@hendrix.edu or visit www.hendrix.edu/odyssey.
- Get ready to study abroad.
What with all the new scholarships and new programs available, the number of Hendrix students participating in study abroad is increasing dramatically. Most students choose to go abroad for part or all of their third year, so this fall is the best time to decide on and apply for a study abroad program. The Study Abroad Library (first floor Buhler) and the International Programs Office Web site at www.hendrix.edu/studyabroad are two great places to explore the world of study abroad. You'll also want to attend the Study Abroad Convocation and the Study Abroad Fair. Look for more information after the semester begins. Feel free to contact the Study Abroad office at studyabroad@hendrix.edu or 501-505-2953 with any questions about the wonderful opportunities Hendrix has to offer.
- Your second year is a great year to explore your major.
Whether you are in the process of deciding on a major or already have a clear degree plan, Career Services is available to help you explore your major. Career Services offers interest inventories as well as access to a network of alumni through Alumni Sharing Knowledge (ASK), which includes the Out-to-Lunch program. Alumni in your field of interest can answer your career and graduate school questions. Visit the Career Services Web site at www.hendrix.edu/career for more information about the services or contact the office anytime at careerservices@hendrix.edu or 501-450-1416.
- Participate in the Sophomore Retreat.
You may wish to participate in the Hendrix-Miller Sophomore Retreat planned Jan. 18-19 at the Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center near Little Rock. Time will be spent on personal exploration, vocational discernment and self-assessment of goals and values. Fore more information, please contact the Hendrix-Miller program coordinator J.J. Whitney at whitney@hendrix.edu or 501-450-4590.
- Attend the Sophomore Class Ongoing Readiness Explosion (SCORE).
A great way to begin your second year is by attending SCORE, an event scheduled from 11:10 a.m. until noon on Thursday, Sept. 6, in Hulen Ballroom. You’ll have the opportunity to learn more about how to make the most of your sophomore experience from representatives of campus programs including study abroad, the Odyssey Program, Student Activities and more. The event includes a video presentation, free pizza and soft drinks and a chance to reconnect with other members of the Class of 2010 as the academic year begins.
