CONWAY, Arkansas (May 30, 2023) — Professor Matthew Lopas will be featured in an exhibition entitled “panelspheres” at the Washington Art Association and Gallery in Washington Depot, Connecticut, on June 10-23, 2023.

There will be an opening reception Saturday, June 10, from 4 to 6 p.m., at 4 Bryan Memorial Plaza, Washington Depot, Connecticut. The Washington Art Association is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. For more information, visit www.washingtonartassociation.org.

The exhibit will feature a variety of different works in different mediums by Lopas and fellow artists Jackie Lima and Mark Lewis. These three accomplished artists have exhibited extensively throughout their careers with works in many private and public collections.

“Rather than just look at a place from a distance, my work invites the viewer to actually inhabit the spaces depicted,” Lopas explained. “A possibility of being intimately present in a place is created. We see that the world is wonderfully alive through our own living vision.”

Lopas has previously been recognized for his “global panorama” paintings of various locations. His work has been featured in various exhibitions including the McKinney Avenue Contemporary and Bowery Gallery Invitational Exhibition.

Lopas joined the Hendrix faculty in 1999. He earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan in 1983. In 1991, he completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Four years later, he completed his Master of Fine Arts degree from the Yale School of Art.
