SLTC LEED

Our Own Odyssey

As an Odyssey project in the Special Project category, four students worked closely with this project to understand the “green” aspects of the Student Life and Technology Center.  Their learning objectives included:

  • Understanding LEED certification by researching, discussing with the project team, and talking with the LEED certified architectural consultant and project manager.
  • Know the specific sustainability efforts in the building.
  • Design and implement a positive educational project that would help the Hendrix community understand sustainability and the SLTC’s design.

In order to achieve their educational outreach plan, they developed the “talking points” regarding the SLTC for the admissions office prospective student tours, presented LEED and SLTC information to the Board of Trustees Student Life committee, and drafted the text for this website.  They also advocated heavily for the College’s financial investment in measurement and verification, which was not part of the original design plan for the building.

Whereas the Student Life and Technology Center represent the cross-roads of engaged learning, student community, and technology, we truly believe that the process of LEED exploration and this Odyssey project mirrors the goals for the building.
