Hendrix Model UN Team Brings Home Five Awards from AMUN 2025

December 4, 2025 – Hendrix College Model UN students, representing Switzerland at the 2025 American Model UN (AMUN) Conference in Chicago from November 22-25, brought home five awards, including an “Overall Outstanding Delegation” citation. Leah Krueger ’26 served as the delegation’s Permanent Representative.

Seven members of the delegation also were honored with “Exceptional Representation” awards for their work in committee: Paige Hubbard ’28 for her work on the Historical Commission of Inquiry of 2005; Beckett McCaslin ’28 and Ian Burnsed ’28 for their work on the General Assembly’s Third Committee (social, cultural, and humanitarian affairs); JT Hutto ’26 and Sam Hirsh ’29 for their work on the Commission on Narcotic Drugs; and Madison Roberts ’27 and Will Forbus ’28 for their representation of Switzerland on the UN Security Council.

“It was quite evident from the beginning of the semester that this was going to be an outstanding delegation,” said Professor Daniel Edquist-Whelan of the Hendrix Department of Politics, who teaches the Model UN course and has led teams to the AMUN Conference since 2008. “Their engagement with conference prep – from researching and preparing position papers, learning how to draft resolutions, and effective use of the AMUN rules of procedure during in-class simulations – provided the students with solid foundations for conference. We also had a truly outstanding group of Model UN mentors this year.”

Hendrix was among 66 schools that sent nearly 1,100 students to AMUN 2025 to represent a total of 112 UN member states and observers.

The Hendrix delegation was very active throughout the conference in each of their simulations and were the lead co-sponsors on numerous resolutions, many of which were adopted by their respective UN bodies, Edquist-Whelan said. The other simulations and the students involved were:

General Assembly Plenary

  • Steele Matthews ’28 and Jack Schneider ’28

General Assembly First Committee (Disarmament & International Security)

  • Jillian Bradshaw ’28 and Clodagh Nangle ’29

General Assembly Second Committee (Economic & Financial Affairs)

  • Chanley Atwell ’27 and Tyler Mannis ’29
