Research Interest: How group stereotypes and a sense of identification with social groups affect sense of self and behaviors.
Broadly, my research examines two different types of research questions. First, how are people influenced by the presence and absence of group steretypes? Second, how does a person's sense of identification with social groups affect their sense of self and their behaviors? More specifically, I have research interests in the following topics:
- how behavior changed to become more like what we see or think about (a precess called behvarioal assimiliation),
- intergroup contact and predudice reduction
- social justice and perceptions of fairness, and
- morality and how moral issues affect behavior. In the course of my research,
I have specifically studied steretyping and prejudice related to gender, regional background (i.e., southerners and northerners), identification as a sports fan, legal authorities (i.e., the police) and occupation (i.e., men and women in the legal system).
