CONWAY, Ark. (April 13, 2017) —Hendrix College Wind Ensemble
and Jazz Band presents Concert in the Park on Monday, April 17, at 5:30 p.m. at
the Staples Fountain.
The Jazz Band, directed by Dr. Barry McVinney, will perform
the first half of the concert, followed by the Wind Ensemble, conducted by Dr.
Gretchen Renshaw, on the second half.
The Wind Ensemble's program features a variety of British and
American music. The repertoire includes Flourish for Wind Band by Ralph Vaughan
Williams; Midnight Euphonium by Goff Richards, featuring guest soloist Dr. Gail
Robertson, Assistant Professor of Tuba/Euphonium and Jazz at the University of
Central Arkansas; First Suite in E-flat by Gustav Holst; America the Beautiful
by Samuel Ward/arr. Carmen Dragon; and The Stars and Stripes Forever by John
Philip Sousa.
Concert in the Park is free and open to the public. The event
is sponsored by the Hendrix College Music Department. In the event of inclement
weather, the performance will be held in the Staples Auditorium.
