Hendrix Mock Trial Team Competes at AMTA Regional Tournament

IMG_3504CONWAY, Ark. (February 25, 2016) – Two Hendrix College Mock Trial teams recently competed in the American Mock Trial Association's regional tournament this past weekend in Jackson, Mississippi.

The tournament invites schools from the South, including Millsaps College, Tulane University, and the University of Alabama.

The Red Team finished 3-4-1, including a win over Rhodes College, and the Blue Team finished 5-3, defeating both teams from the University of Mississippi.

Two students received individual awards:

  • Hannah Burdette '19 received a Best Attorney award
  • Rowan Bond '16 received a Best Witness award as one of the top four witnesses at the tournament

 “I can't say enough how proud I am of this team,” said Hendrix alumnus Shawn Johnson ’98, an attorney with the Arkansas Attorney General’s Office, who volunteers as the teams’ attorney coach. “These students prepared their respective cases brilliantly and professionally.  They reflect the very best of Hendrix.”

“Programs like these instill in students an understanding of the law whether they are bound for law school or not,” Johnson added. “Hendrix is a leader and a pioneer in this area. I am thankful for their leadership in achieving this success on an extracurricular basis.”
