Hendrix to Celebrate Longtime Professor during Alumni Weekend 2016

Jennings, James - 20101006 - 14420947CONWAY, Ark. (February 19, 2016) – Hendrix College will celebrate the life and impact of longtime education and history professor Dr. James Jennings with a remembrance service on Saturday, April 16, during Alumni Weekend 2016.

Dr. Jennings, who joined the Hendrix faculty in 1992, passed away unexpectedly this fall. 

Remembrance events

1 p.m. Gathering and Slide Show with Dr. Jennings’ Tuesday Talk (Staples Auditorium)

1:30 p.m. Memorial Service (Greene Chapel)

2:30 p.m. Reception (Mills Library)

To honor Dr. Jennings’ deep passion for improving education in the Arkansas Delta, the Hendrix Education Department will collect books at the memorial service to distribute to schools in the Delta that Dr. Jennings supported throughout the years. To participate, please bring a new book, any level (K-12) or any genre (fiction/nonfiction), etc. 

The College will also collect written remembrances of Dr. Jennings from current students, alumni, faculty and staff. These will be collected, printed, and bound to give to the Jennings family at the remembrance service. The remembrance may be as short as a few sentences or as long as a page or two.  To contribute a remembrance, please email the Education Department at edlabstu@hendrix.edu by Friday, April 1.  

To honor Dr. Jennings’ life work and his passion for improving education in the Arkansas Delta, Hendrix has established the Dr. James Jennings Hendrix College-Arkansas Delta Scholarship for students from the Arkansas Delta. To contribute to the scholarship fund, contact Rev.
