Hendrix Biological Society

HBS is an organization designed for all students with any interest in biology.  We host lectures, go on field trips and perform service projects around campus and in the community.  There are also several other activities throughout the year to keep students informed and entertained, such as movie nights! Everyone is invited to be a member of HBS.

Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society  is a national honor society for students who have achieved a certain level of success in biology coursework. Membership requirements are as follows:

Associate Membership: at least one biology class with a biology GPA of 3.0. Dues are $35 for the associate membership

Regular Membership: at least three biology classes with a biology GPA of 3.0. Dues are $45 for the regular membership, which is paid to the national organization.

(NOTE: a promoted membership for Associate to Regular is only $10.)

When and where do we meet?

We meet on the first Monday of every month at 6:30 p.m., in DW Reynolds 10 (unless otherwise noted). Please check the master calendar for room number.

 

Hendrix Biology Majors Awarded National Undergraduate Research Grants  

November 2, 2011 - Four Hendrix biology majors received TriBeta Research Grants from the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society. The combined student award was $2,140.

The 2011 Hendrix student recipients of the TriBeta Research Grant are:

  • Chris Akcali '13
  • Payton Lea '12
  • Adam Legg '12
  • Tresor Mukiza '13  

Lea's research will be mentored by Dr. Ann Willyard. Akcali, Legg, and Mukiza will be mentored by Dr. George Harper.

According to the TriBeta website, the grants "are intended to support undergraduate research by awarding cash scholarships annually to students conducting student research."

"Four students applied and each received at least partial funding," said Harper, who serves as the Hendrix TriBeta chapter advisor for Hendrix.

Grants are available on a competitive basis each year to full TriBeta members.
