Catalog 2026-2027

B.2.b. First-Year Foundations

First-Year Foundations (FYF) is a full-credit course that all entering Hendrix students take during their first semester. FYF supports students in their transition to Hendrix College by building a strong foundation for personal, academic, and professional growth. Students explore the resources and values that shape life at Hendrix, communicate through classroom discussions and written assignments, develop strategies for academic success, and begin thinking about their long-term goals and interests. These aims are accomplished through readings and conversation, reflective and collaborative activities, and active engagement across our diverse campus community. As part of this pathway, students begin to envision their growth as whole persons throughout their Hendrix experience. Led by faculty or staff, and supported by peer mentors, this course prepares helps students form meaningful connections, discover new academic interests and passions, and approach their college journey with purpose and confidence.

FYF may not be dropped. Sections will be offered each semester to allow students who need to retake the course to do so. FYF is required of all entering students, including transfers.
