This 0.5-credit course prepares students with the foundational skills necessary to be successful in their co-op as well as their professional life after Hendrix. Students engage in self-discovery, career exploration, and goal setting. They learn and practice job search techniques (e.g., identifying opportunities, building application materials, interviewing) and further develop career competencies.

This 0-credit course provides students with a structured, full-time (minimum of 8 weeks and 320 hours) research-related experience. With permission from the IRE committee, students preparing for medical school, graduate school, or professional school rather than seeking employment immediately after graduation may apply to enroll in an Intensive Research Experience rather than COOP 493, COOP 480, or COOP 483. Such students must demonstrate that an intensive research experience, as compared to a more traditional Co-Op experience, is a superior choice and essential for their career goals. Prerequisite: COOP 295, Corequisite: COOP 497

This course is taken concurrently with the students’ approved co-op experience. It provides a structured framework for students to reflect on their professional progress and plan for long-term career success. Through discussions with peers from diverse disciplines, students analyze workplace practices, evaluate professional standards, and explore the values shaping their fields. Students work closely with their faculty and cohort to connect real-world experiences obtained through their co-op and other relevant contexts to refine personalized career goals. Prerequisite: COOP 295, Corequisite: COOP 470, 473, 480, 483, or 493.

Students who undertake an internship can add an academic dimension to their experience, and gain academic credit, by taking this class concurrently with their internship. Students work with a Faculty Mentor in a small-group, collaborative framework, to reflect upon their experiences, analyze and evaluate the standards, practices, and values operating in their professional contexts, deepen their understanding of the relationships between career competencies and various ways of knowing, and think critically with their peers to build collaborative approaches to workplace challenges and success. This class will meet between 4 and 6 times per semester, as determined by the Faculty Mentor. Note: Internships must be registered through the Office of Career Services.

Internships provide students with the opportunity to develop or refine both field-specific skills and career competencies, sought by employers across all fields. Working with a Career Services professional, students participate in asynchronous guided written reflections and intentional professional development activities. Through all of these experiences, they gain insights to further their personal vocational discernment process. Note: Internships must be registered through the Office of Career Services.
