This course introduces the field of Health Humanities, which explores the contributions of the arts and humanities to human health and well-being, both in the formal medical professions and beyond. Topics include: the ways the arts and humanities illuminate the human experience of death, illness, and health; the changing understandings of death, illness, and health over time and across cultures; the value of arts and humanities in training medical and paramedical professionals; the therapeutic application of arts and humanities; the moral and ethical issues surrounding health and healthcare; and the impact of human systems on health outcomes among diverse populations.
